Introduction to percentage

In Mathematics, percentage is used to express a number as a fraction over 100. "Per cent" meaning per hundred, the sign used is %. For example forty-seven percent is represent as 47%, which is equal to 47/100 or 0.47.
What is 13% of 196?
Answer: 13% × 196 = (13 / 100) × 196 = 25.48.

The reason for the apparent discrepancy is that the two percent changes (+50% and −50%) are measured relative to different quantities ($200 and $220, respectively), and thus do not "cancel out".

Direct and Inverse Proportion

Direct proportion is basically like a graph which is going up. For example, the more time you have, the more things you can produce/do. If you have 1 hour to do 1 job, then you can do 2 jobs in 2 hours.
However, inverse proportion is the opposite. It is a graph in which is going down.

For example, 8 girls can sew 8 dresses in 8 hours. How many dresses can 1 girl sew in 1 hour?

If you say 1, it is wrong. 8 girls can sew 8 dresses in 8 hours. Hence, 1 girl can sew 8 dresses in 64 hours. Then, you can see that 1 girl can sew 1/8 dress in 1 hour as she can sew 1 dress in 8 hours.
