Direct proportion is basically like a graph which is going up. For example, the more time you have, the more things you can produce/do. If you have 1 hour to do 1 job, then you can do 2 jobs in 2 hours.
However, inverse proportion is the opposite. It is a graph in which is going down.
For example, 8 girls can sew 8 dresses in 8 hours. How many dresses can 1 girl sew in 1 hour?
If you say 1, it is wrong. 8 girls can sew 8 dresses in 8 hours. Hence, 1 girl can sew 8 dresses in 64 hours. Then, you can see that 1 girl can sew 1/8 dress in 1 hour as she can sew 1 dress in 8 hours.
